If you listened to my heart
What would you hear?
Would you hear the words of compassion that I’ve had from the start?
And would you know all the things I hold dear?
If you looked into my soul
What do you think you’d see?
Do you think you’d see how strife has taken its toll?
Or would you see how the strife has strengthened me?
If you smelled the roses I brought you
What would you smell?
Would you see all that’s honest and true?
What would you be able to tell?
If you touched my soul
Do you think you’d know?
Whether or not you left me empty or whole
Would you know where you made me go?
You wouldn’t know a thing about me
Unless you asked me to tell you
Because from looking at me you’d never see
All the things in life that I’ve been through
There are no lines on my face
From all of the strife
You’d think that I lived a life full of satin and lace
Unless you asked me about my life
Don’t judge me by what you see
Because looks can deceive
If you want to know the truth, ask me
Because I’m honest and all my words you can believe
