To My Grandfathers
It seems like yesterday that you saw me and I was a young lass
And a long has happened as the years pass
I wonder what you’d think of me
Fighting my way to be free
I find myself wondering what you’d say
If you hadn’t gone away
I wish I knew what you thought of it all
And wish there was a way to call
You never got to see me start my goal
You never got to see me roll
And I wonder what you’d say to me
If I could see you and you could see me
Would you be proud of all I’ve done?
Would you tell me to have more fun?
I wonder about how you’d feel
About how I hope, cope and deal
I wish I could see your face
I wish I could tell you about my favorite place
But it wasn’t meant to be
So now I know you’re looking down on me
You never got to see me start my goal
You never got to see me roll
And I wonder what you’d say to me
If I could see you and you could see me
I know you’re smiling down on me
But I wish it was a smile I could see
I know you’d be proud of all I do
You never got to see me start my goal
You never got to see me roll
And I wonder what you’d say to me
If I could see you and you could see me
You’ll always be in my heart
With you I’ll never part
I’ll carry you with every dream of you
And in memories of the things we’d do
